to lock flywheel before I got the special tool, i'd use a big screwdriver inserted through the bell housing hole below the clutch and vice grip it to the housing. Place it to the correct side of the hole(drivers side?) so that the torque of removing the flywheel bolts works in your favor.
I've never used 518 on the seals but its not a bad idea. used it about everywhere else so as long as it doesn't get to tacky while you're fiddling with it, why not.
You're gonna end up drilling those holes. Tapping on it requires way more patience and luck than I have. If you recall the position of the old seal, place the new one a tad (1/16") further in.
