Higher octane gas simply refers to it's ability to resist pre-ignition, nothing more. It is not "better", it is not cleaner, it does not have more engine additives. The only benefit you get from higher octane is that when your engine runs hot, it won't ignite before the spark plug sparks. I have had many family members in the gas business and the auto repair business, the idea that Premium Gas is somehow better, or needed for cars that do not call for it, are simply old wise tales.
