Hey thanks for taking the time for the very informative resonses Ari and Jonathin!
Without any background with this car or Turbos its certainly been a learning curve!
While I think the big Gremlins have been addressed its the little ones that are difficult to pinpoint!
The fact that all plugs seem to be burning evenly by color (gap at .024) indicate at least a degree of uniformity and an isolated leak(ie. single injector seal of manifold gasket etc unlikely. The AIC valve seems to regulate idle speed normally but a slight leak could increase the un metered airflow contributing to a lean condition.
Jonathin you mentioned retarding the timing slightly to help boost:surprisingly when I retarded the timing to about 17-18 btc I actually got less boost! I was surprised
A carbon build up wasnt something that I thought of but makes sense and the next thing is to change the fuel filter. The existing filter has about 18000 miles since last changed
The color of the plugs seems suspicious. Perhaps the color actually was more greyish that a white. Seems lean to me. I would like to check the fuel pressure. How do you plumb a fitting in the fuel rail to accept a pressure gauge?
One item which Im not been fully clear on is the positioning of the knock sensor. I interpret the positioning of sensor slightly forward of perpendicular to the axis of the crank shaft. Is this correct and does it really matter that much except from trying to keep the harness away from potential electrical noise in the alternator wiring etc? Ive read several post's of boost problems linked to various engine noises. When I unbolted the knock sensor leaving the harness connected and wrapped and placed away from engine noise there was no change in boost. I am thinking however that this boost issue is somehow fuel delivery related. I appreciate your ideas thanks again jk
