Every C900 I've ever owned or driven has had a crunchy cold 1-2 shift. Shift slow and let the gear walk it in, instead of forcing to grind. Even my SPG - with syncros replaced when the tranny was rebuilt - is sticky. You've done the right things by changing the tranny fluid and getting the clutch up to snuff, but the best rule is just to take it easy until warm.
