I don't understand: you're saying that the engine runs without the fuel pump (fuse removed)? How long are we talking here, 5 seconds or so?
Disconnecting the plug from the coolant temp sensor without a witnessing a change doesn't confirm that it's not the problem.
The *higher* the sensor's resistance, the *lower* the ECU thinks the temp is. By removing the plug, the resistance goes infinitely high, so *unless the ECU can tell that the plug is removed* (I don't know if it can or not), the it thinks the coolant temp is about Absolute Zero, and so is puking in gasoline.
Try replacing the temp sensor, or even jumpering the contacts on the plug (ECU thinks resistance is basically zero, IOW, it thinks the engine is warm) to see if you get a change.
