there isn't an overpressure switch after '88. In '89 and later the overboost saftey is done by an airflow limit setpoint in the ECU.
If the boost drops suddenly like that, one source of boost loss to look for (actually about 8 sources) includes the hose clamps that connect the turbo induction boots to the turbo, intercooler, & throttle body; look for cracks or splits in the rubber turbo induction boots; and look for loose rubber bushings that hold the the vacuum nipples into the intake manifold. When any one of those opens up, you lose boost.
Another thing to check is the front motor mount - if the front of the engine rises excessively on acceleration, the distributor cap can contact the underside of the hood. When that happens, spark is kinda interrupted.
