I had to remove & replace an alternator in a 93 900. Last time I did this job, I just threw in a spare alternator that I had in my garage. I should have changed the voltage regulator first. Anyway, when I put in the last alternator, I reversed the long bolt. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Didn't take anywhere near the time the first on took. I did not have to remove the compressor, and I was able to sneak out the alternator through the coolant heater hoses. ALWAYS REVERSE THE BOLT, if you have to put in a new alternator. You just have to remove the oil filter housing, which is a lot easier than the compressor & alternator bracket.
