I just changed my mast and it was easy. One thing Hans and oldsaab didn't say is it is easyer to bench test this thing. Do you have an old battery? and if not you could pull the one from the car if you have to. But anyway you must hook up a ground to the "new" one to test it. I used aligator clips from the bracket to the bench battery. Also the ant needs constant power on the lead that makes it go down and when you turn the car on it puts additional power to the lead that make the mast go up. (power both leads, red and green if my memory serves)

Before I would leave bad feedback to the e-bay guy I would be sure that you tested this correctly. Also I would suggest you take the ant you have apart yourself it is really easy and there isn't that many things in there just put it back the way you found it and everything should be fine. Basically just take the one nut off the case.
