There was a link that Jake posted a month or so back with a procedure for taking apart a Miata rack for purposes of "depowering" it. The principles for taking the rack apart and for putting it back together (other than cutting things out, of course :-) should be pretty much the same as SAAB racks.

The problem with our Saginaw racks is that the aluminum tube wears with time and new O-rings might not be able to seal it. But it's definitely worth a try.
