But stranger things have happened.
We'd be lucky if it was 10 gauge sheet steel. Even with the 4 bolts holding it to the U-channel below the engine and to the front apron, it probably doesn't provide that much more structural integrity. Unless your U-channel was loose.
All of my post '87 900s have had the skidplate. And all of then have been bent to heck by curbs - the SPGs get it the worst 'cause they're low.
