Just did this myself to test my pump/pre-pump. You'll need a jump wire 12-14 gauge with blade connections (small)(Bentley recommends a fused(20 amp) 14 gauge wire with a switch--I was comfortable using a unfused wire, ready to pull it if it started to get hot). Remove fuses #27 and #30 from your fuse box. With the ignition off, plug the jump wire in to the UPPER slot of #27, and the LOWER slot of #30 (be sure you follow this or the test won't work). Then have a helper turn the ignition to the on position (just before turning it over), while you "listen" for the pump to run in the back hatch area (it will be much easier to hear if you take the floor out first). This will at least tell you if your pump is faulty or not.
If the pump runs for the test, but you think it isn't running when you're starting/trying to run the car, it's probably the relay or a problem with the wiring (according to the Bentley manual)
Good luck!
