Good news and maybe not so good Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Mon, 31 Jul 2006 19:32:25 In Reply to: Slipped clutch cable, Zoots Alures, Mon, 31 Jul 2006 18:42:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The good news is that you don't have a clutch cable 'cause it's hydraulic. Well, maybe it's not so good because you'll want to do a little detective work.
Check the brake fluid reservoir to see that it's full. If it's way down you'll want to check for leaks.
Check underneath the car for drips (or puddles) of brake fluid - if there's one under the front of the car, the slave cylinder wants to be replaced or rebuilt. Or, the bleeder nipple wasn't tight (BTDT - my mechanic, who shall remain nameless except that his initials are R and S, forgot to tighten it all the way.) Or, the fitting that connects the hydraulic hose to the slave cylinder isn't tight. You'll have to eyeball each possibiity.
If either of the last two is the case, you'll want to re-bleed the hydraulics.
It's also possible that the master cylinder needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Another long shot of a possibility, since it happened suddenly, is that the clevis pin that connects the clutch master cylinder yoke to the brake pedal lost its E-clip and slipped out. You'll need to feel up past the cardboard around the clutch pedal assembly to see if it's still attached.
