Arabiflora,
Yes I had fun rebuilding T37s and other Saab transmissions for several years. The T37 is actually a fairly simple 3 speed transmission. The array of steel pipes on the bottom scares off a lot of DIY guys as soon as they pop off the cover pans and see them. Making a map and labeling the pipes will streamline the task. Pulling them out without bending them is important too. Saab actually provided a tiny slide hammer with a hooked end for the purpose. The big problem with the T37 was that Saab had a deal with Borg-Warner to keep all the parts "captive" so you could only get them from Saab. Some of the parts and most of the perishable parts were identical to the old T35 (which were not captive) so you could get those in the aftermarket and use them. Pumps were a big problem. Take a good hard look at yours for scoring of the gear pocket. The T37 pump is unique and when Saab had them to sell (maybe still) they were $700+! T-37s usually ran for about 150,000 miles and when they came out for rebuilding they typically needed a pump or a front clutch or both so a large core inventory was essential and I could normally make one good unit from about three bad ones as far as the hard parts were concerned. They were not economical to rebuild. The Saab section 4 Automatic service manual is one of the best manuals I know of and you should get one before you open your unit. The ATSG book is OK but lacking. Be sure to carefully adjust the shift mechanism after reinstalling or you'll blow out your new tranny for sure. Anyway, Good luck.
