the EQ should also illuminate at the same time the radio does. I forget if the reostat controls this? there are two reostats, one on the facia to the right of the foglight push button, sitting with hands on wheel you can't see it, it's under the left side of the wheel. sometimes that one spins in the mount as the nut on the back as come loose.

the other reostat is in the plastic face of the instument cluster. there are three plastic stalks in that area. one to set the clock time (pull or push and turn), one to reset the trip meter (definitely push to reset) and the third is turn to dim/brighten stuff in the radio area. does the backlights for the heater controls and all that. can't rememeber if it does radio, I've been going back and forth between 900's and 9000's.

one way to test the EQ is to get someone with good hearing (teenager!) and with car off play stereo, then slide the right most EQ slides up or down or not at all and see if helper can tell if sound got tinny, muted, or no chnage. Depending upon your hearing condition you should be able to note the difference too! I can still tell when my teenage driver has finked around with the audio controls in any of my 900's or 9000's.
