get a second opinion or even a third
dont inform the new shop about what the last shop said, let them give you a price and what they think is wrong with it, then go to the next shop

really dont matter where you go, when you get 2 or 3 that say the same thing and for the same/or round about price only then make the choice who gets the honor of working on your car, and at that time stop by saabnet and inform the ng900 bb of what the shops said and the prices
1,700 is way to much not to get a second opinion.

and might i add this is the c900 bb (classic 900)
your looking for the ng900&og9/3 bb (new generation 900 and old gen. 9/3 bulletin board)
