I have a 90 900tc and have made every attempt to keep it sock, it runs great much to the chagrin of my wife who has a new t bird and wants to know why we always have to take the saab when its cool out!!
When I put in the new sony head unit it comes with LED blue face with all the ligts out on by dash and light switchs i opened one up saw the teeny bulbe and headed to Advance. I fount one item that uses a LED bulbe the same size. Grabed a few, got the soldering iron fired up and disassembled the lot. Carefull, the LED is polerized and has a + and -.
then while the switch is open I poped out the green lense out and cleaned the contacts, carefull dont add any lube as I did to the moving parts, just clean and dry. put it back and Ohh YAH! Did them all! Then I pulled the instrument cluster out, cacked it open and seperated the lense from the guages face. once inside I glued in three LED Illuminators right out of the package, drilled and fed the wire ouf of the guage case and then spliced in a lead to the headlight switch so they on cam on when the headlights were on. I used 3, one for each gauge. I have to say, it is very cool. In hind sight I would have used green LEDs but, the Sony is blue.
The LED is a LED Illuminator # 36.0401.B from APC.
I had use some black modle paint to keep too much of the led light from shining only at the guage and not all over the place or back at me. took a bit of tweeking but it was worth it. and these things never burn out!
have fun tinkering!
