Thanks a bunch. Sounds like you have done this a few times. I'm debating whether I should go ahead and replace the upper SKF with the Timken that I have on hand and see if the noise goes away, but the old bearing feels pretty good so I'm beginning to think that it is the lower ones.
I do need to pull the inner drivers and the replace the seals and o-rings so I'll have that area apart anyway and this doesn't sound like too much work beyond that point. I do have a 12 ton press too and used it to rebuild a VW 020 transmission so I probably shouldnt be so frightened of this!
