The 85 trans won't have the internal centering spring to align the shifter with the 3-4 gate. This would make finding gears tricky. Early cars have a spring just forward of the shift lever that squeeses on a square boss on the shift link rod. Trans would fit otherwise if it's a turbo. If not the inner drivers would have to be changed. Basically, yes, but lots of extra work to get an inferior trans in your car.
