back in the late 80s...the diesels were by FAR the most fun and inrteresting cars to drive!!! Anyhow....my sense has always been that it's always OK to pay a bit too much..."a bit"...rather than not get the car you really want. You could pay $4K and have to invest another $2K to make it right...a top/tires/ball joints/shocks/? rust issues even..into a car with 80000 miles or more. OR pay this guy say $7500 and have a really good car with really good leather seats, great paintwork and be ahead of that investment curve that you'd pay to make an older car golden. Plus....a late model 5 speed convertible is going to hold that value I have no doubt. So...if the miles are genuine....I'd sit the guy down and 'do the dance'. These cars are only going to get rarer and values are already climbing on all C900s that are in good shape. And you know a good 900 will last as long as any MB kept by the same enthusiast!! My 85 900T has 285K on it...it's a member of the family at this point and my kids argue over who gets it when I kick the bucket!
