I think you'll be happy if you respray it with the original color. For some reason, when the original color fades it doesn't look very good. My friend has original paint on one his CE and, to be frank, it doesn't look good. That car also has the original tan top. The second CE I bought was repainted, It was VERY well done. I know it was repainted but noone else can tell. The edges were wet-sanded to blend them before the whole car was clearcoated. The paint looks awesome! I plan to keep the car well waxed to keep the sheen as long as I can. My friend wants to repaint his but we are going to try claying it and giving it a good buffing first to see if we can bring the original paint back.
My first CE has SPG panels put on by the previous owner. I like the look. Since it is not a matching number car It's not a big deal. My other CE has a black top put on by the previous owner. I have a German canvass tan top to put on it once the black one wears out. I do like the look of the black top, but I want to keep the look original.
Be prepared to do a lot of work if you plan to change the color. You'll have to paint the door jams, the trunk lip and stuff like that. It will be much more expensive to paint the car another color because of all the additional masking and prep work. That is unless you plan to paint it yourself.
