You are correct. From my research, I was able to determine that there were four SPG prototypes imported to the US.

The VIN numbers ran sequentially on the vehicles imported: 60, 61, 62 and 63. # 62 is believed to have been destroyed somewhere in CA a few years ago. #61 is/was?? owned by Mike Connolly of ConnTech in Rhode Island. That car has been extensively modifed - and is believed to have a 1989 engine. I don't know if the original 85 engine was lost or not. I guess I should try and contact him for more info/clarification...

#63 is supposedly a very low mileage vehicle that was part of a dealer-owned collection - but I have not been able to obtain any information about it or determine its whereabouts. (I think it was listed in the Saabnet classified in late 2005 - but have not been able to confirm or retreive the listing or determine if it was in fact ever sold.)

I have documentation for this car from Saab that denotes the vehicle as being shown at the NY Auto show and also being used as the subject test vehicle in a Car and Driver article. Further, this car had its driver's door test-painted by Saab in an effort to determine color matching ability of the pearl paint. Unfortunately, because of this test, the pearl paint was deemed as too difficult to color match and blend - and the color was never officially offered as a consumer option...instead the "Special Black" paint was the launch color for the SPG in the US with a tan interior. In the UK and Europe, the launch colors were black with a red interior ... and supposedly ... a few silver SPGs with red interior vehicles sprinkled in.

Saab produced an additional run of 25 pearl-white colored SPGs in 1985 as special vehicles for key VIP and key European dealers. These cars were built to European specifications and were marked with the relevant labeling and VIN codes, door jamb stickers, etc. I am aware of three that went to France, and two that remain in Sweden. The four prototype SPGs that made it to the US were not so labeled to indicate any conformance to US or European DOT standards, etc.
