Interesting… here’s another 85 8v s notchback w/ contour seats
EbAy Item# 320099625809
Maybe it’s an East vs. West coast difference (granted this particular car is in the mid point)? I only saw one 1985 900s (8 valve) with contour seats during my years of employment at the Indy shop I worked at… and it was my friends car that we swapped them into (came from an 87).
My interpretation of waffle seats I think might be different from yours. The ones I would call waffle are found in 81-85 900s and 81-83 turbo’s… stitching that created square patterns, like 3”-4” (it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a pair) and had an arm rest, then the base seat’s (no arm rest) were more like vertical lines… evenly spaced in 81-82 and switched to uneven spacing for the duration. Did you notice the white 81’ turbo (77k) that was on EbAy a few weeks back… if so would you refer to those as waffle seats?
While on the topic of seat’s, one of my favorites were the rear seat head rests from 79-80 900’s… bigger than a couch throw pillow… and the 79 front seat insert’s were great too. I had a 79 900 GLE with a 16v turbo conversion but stock appearance… loved those seats, miss that car. Always loved the 5 door (had 2 of them), seeing as I live in the rust belt though, 5 doors shall stay a memory.
Nice “ground cover” (your pictures) ha-hah, good one. At times my father’s driveway has looked like that, currently there are 3… ornaments bleeding on the asphalt. I’ve named his garage “Dogwood Automotive… home for the wayward Saab”
Anyway, thanks for understanding my not “one-upping”
Let me know what you think
