First of all I think you need to find a different mechanic-these prices sound way out of line. I'm assuming you need CV joints. There is place locally that does them for around $125 installed and will ship you a completely rebuild axle for $90 exchange. It's about a 20 minute job to pop a whole new axle in (for a pro). One thing about Saabs is that they have a unique ability to solder on with things going wrong, your trans could go years without failing. It could even be a linkage issue. Try double clutching (let the clutch out in neutral, push it back in and try the gear) and see if it helps. The car will certainly continue on for as long as you want to keep repairing it, and compared to what it would cost to buy anything that would be an improvement, is the cheapest deal in town. The question you need to answer is do you want to keep driving it?
