the question needs to be asked first, is the motor being cleaned just to get the extra build up of grease off or detailed so all the hoses shine with gleam, or to get that unwanted sand out of hard to reach areas,
its ok to use high pressure hose, in fact funny you would post this for just yesterday i had a high pressure hose blasting the bejesus out of my motor, dirt, oil, grease all just went away.
kinda like that commercial (calgon take me away)
and kinda not.
if the high pressure hose is the choice of tools thats going to be used just know to stay or not hit directly the alt,or batt. and you`ll be fine
blast the heck out of the fire-wall, and the belt side of the motor, blast the heck out of the air filter or the frame that runs under it clearing out all the dirt pile up, under the car, backside through the fans aiming at the radiator to get all them dry rotted bugs out of the fins, exhaust manifold side just unload just be aware of the batt.
and watch out for the area where the oxy. sensor hooks to the car.
there are a bunch of wires running in that area that would not do well if hit with a waterfall (right above the passenger-side wheel well)
have a ball. the 30 pounds of dirt that is blasted off the car will make your motor happy.
after the fun is over take a rag and mop up the wetness of the water laying all over everything, dab the batt. ring out the rag and go in for more. then use your choice of bling bling hose fluid.
