Yes, I have welded in plenty of wheel lips. You used to be able to buy the patch panels from Saab, but I'm not sure they are available anymore. The thickness of the repair panels was much thinner than the metal Saab used to make the cars, so robbing sawzalled panels from a donor car is a better option. It of course is more work since you have to drill spot welds to separate the inner and outer pieces of the donor panels, strip the paint off them, and possibly sandblast some surface rust. I choose to cut away the bad, then weld the replacement panels from the outside, instead of tucking them from behind. Your patch is only as thick as the metal used, which isn't that bad to bondo over.

If you have a few hours to kill, I have over 1000 pictures linked of the 78T rustoration I've been working on. I've just about repaired every possible rusting place on this car already, which was more extensive that I had originally thought it would be.
