My guess would be that there is a problem with the O2 sensor, since someone worked on your muffler...maybe the wireing on the O2 sensor got broken or so. Check the 3wires going up from the sensor located below the power steering pump on the Y-pipe, between manifold and cat. My check engine light was on to due to a faulty O2 sensor
