with gas vapors, it should be 'tight'. try plugging the line from the tank, and the one to the manifold, and see if the smell goes away (that's what i would do, anyway).
the breather hose from cam cover to inlet has a water line inside it, something to do with heating the inlet. not sure exactly what it's purpose is, but some people remove and replace with non turbo style (with no water line). ther was a post last week with direct reference to this. good luck
