Jam the screwdriver between the ring gear teeth and the starter housing, then it's not difficult to remove each of the bolts. You'll need to jam the screwdriver when you pull the PP, too, by the way. And when you remove the PP, it's important to loosen the bolts gradually, or you can (supposedly) warp a flywheel!
Take the flywheel to a shop who can resurface it - definitely worth the $22. I don't know about lightening it, but I would at least talk to Dave at Lesco about the trade-offs in driveability vs. performance. (you can find Dave on the Performance Board, AKA 900aero)
Cheers,
Jonathan
