If just the oil in the pan was replaced, you are talking about 2.something qts out of a total of 8.5 qts. This shouldn't be enough to cause any problems. On the other hand, if all the fluid was changed, it would probably be prudent to change it all again (this time using the Type F).
The change in shifting could be related to just having fresh fluid. How long since any of the fluid was changed? If it has been a long time, then changing what comes out of the pan (2.5 qt or so) would be a good idea.
While you are at it, was the level of the final drive checked while the car was in the shop? If not, check it or have it checked. If that fluid hasn't been changed, might not be a bad idea to go ahead with it.
Having said that, I ran all my 900s with AMSOIL synthetic ATF (not Type F, since it was before they had a Type F) and had absolutely no problems
