i've been plagued with a similar problem on formerly my son's, now my 1985 SPG. About the only difference is I have 30# red top injectors. It actually runs scary fast with a 3.0 bar, (22 to 25 lbs of boost)bur very rich and stinky at idle and has the similar midrange coughing. OK at full throttle. I tried a Group-9 rising rate fpr and it was a bit better but still not quite right. (Maybe impatience on my part.) a 2.8 didn't fix it so I finally changed back to the original 2.5. Much better mileage, no stinky black smoke at idle, 15 lbd of boost max and smooth through the range. Not the answer, just my observations.
