Greetings, fellow enthusiasts. Serious about the new owner part: I just bought a (heretofore)non-running, site-unseen 87 C900 turbo 16V over the phone for 300 bucks (the guy wanted 400). I've been restoring, racing and tuning cars (mostly VW's) for many years. But I always loved the C900 look so when I saw an add for one so cheap I figured what the heck. Called my girlfriend to look at it 800 miles away. It didn't run but turned over. She had it towed to her house. I flew down and 20 minutes after I took a look at it I jiggled the grommet that plugs into the distributor (on VW's it's called a hall sender) and vroooom. Started up and hasn't quit since. In 3 words..IT IS AWESOME. I love this car an can't stop futzing with it. It's far from junk, although the guy was within a day of selling it to a scrap yard for 200 bucks cause he was in the navy and had to leave. Body is excellent. Engine turbo, exhaust, clutch...all work beautifully.

Now, about the disgruntled man. I'm joking, obviously. But when I first got it and the engine wouldn't start I noticed a crazy grumbling noise each time I stopped turning it over? Seems to have had no adverse effect but I'm scared about the dreaded timing chain "jump", "stretch" or the daunting "break." I hear a noise which seems to be coming from around the timing chain area at the back, no the front, no the...well, whatever, I'm still getting acclimated :-) But a tingling or jingling noise. Any advice?

BTW. Changed out the alternator. What a joy. On VW's it is literally a 6 to 8 minute job if you take your sweet time. My first Saab alternator replacement? 4 hours :-)

Anyway, I have a million other questions but will go through the FAQ's as I know redundant questions aren't particularly endearing, especially if they've already been answered 6398 times.

A pleasure to be a new C900 enthusiast and thanks for creating/contributing to this post/bulletin

Philip
