I don't have a Bentley manual, so I don't know how much it goes into basic maintenence and diagnostics theory. The oil leak could either be internal engine such as a worn ring on one or more pistons, or a damaged cylinder wall, possibly a leaky valve stem seal, or the turbo unit is shot. There are specific ways to determine the precise cause of the leak. First though, you should do all you can to get the engine in best possible running condition with all the basic tune-up items. Then you'll have a better chance of isolating the specific problem. If the leak is because of a bad or worn piston ring, there will more than likely be evidence of oil, carbon or soot on the spark plug from that cylinder. A compression test will also indicate an internal engine problem. A worn turbo unit is often determined by the amount of radial play (how much movement when physically manipulated) in the turbine shaft. Noticing oil or oily carbon on the exhaust side of the turbo unit is also an indicator.
There's more. Some are relatively easy fixes, while some might require expensive replacements. If you know you have a problem with piston rings, but you won't be able to get to that fix right away, there is a way to keep the oil burning to a minimum by using one of the oil additive products designed to help reduce oil burning.
You sure you want to know all this junk? Your knuckles will never be the same.
