Depends on the tire Posted by DivrDon [Email] (#1004) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DivrDon) on Fri, 16 Nov 2007 08:28:05 In Reply to: They say it's about 4 years (+), Siegfried, Fri, 16 Nov 2007 08:02:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Very true the rubber oxidizes and will tend to get hard making wet weather handling a problem, but I think how long this will take depends on the tire and how its maintained. Left out in the sun will accelerate deterioration. I had a set of Goodrich TAs that were still soft and great in the dry at 10 years, but the thread was so worn that they slid all over in the wet. On the other hand, I had a set of Firestones that slid all over in the wet when new. Long story short, you have to evaluate the tires regardless of age. If your P400s are sliding around, get rid of them regardless of age.
