did you know about shifter alignment? Posted by Saabu [Email] In Reply to: why does my 900 not shift well?, Fred, Sat, 19 Jan 2008 12:46:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
i believe your shifter may not be aligned. at first i thought perhaps your flywheel bearing was shot but if you arent getting grinding, then its something else.
there is a special tool to align the shifter that snaps onto the diff cover and then reaches over to the shift rod.
however another way to do it is to take the console out, lift the carpet and look right in front of the shifter housing, there's a hole. put the car into 3rd gear and you should be able to drop a thin rod (ie 3-4 mm hex L wrench)such that it passes thru the hole in the housing and the hole in the shift rod. if it wont go, then loosen the 3 hold-down nuts on the shifter housing(thats typically another story but a hammer and a long screwdriver used judiciously will get them loose)and move it until the wrench drops thru both holes, then tighten them up and remove the wrench.
This may solve your problem
Unless of course your 2nd gear synchro is shot, which is a good chance as its the least durable synchro of them all.
