So. As some of you may know.... I've been having troubles getting my '88 900T vert out of reverse and into forward gear. My mechanic said he thought my busted engine mounts were the problem. Which, regardless, needed fixin' I'm sure. But then I STILL had that problem. So I took it back. He said he put it on the lift and put it in R and back into gear 20+ times without seeing the problem (and in fact NEVER really experienced the problem as I did). I felt like the shifting lever felt "bound up" or something, and then, if I was on an incline and could let the car roll forward (or, in desperation, could get it in neutral and push it forward a foot or so) it would usually pop RIGHT into gear with no trouble and drive totally fine.
Suddenly I had a 2 day period where I could not only not get it back into ANY forward gear, I also could not get it OUT of reverse AT ALL. Yesterday they were doing street cleaning, though and my side of the street was clear of cars. I backed up and let it roll forward, then again, and some more, and more. Suddenly I GOT IT INTO first gear!!! I drove to the shop and that's when he didn't experience the problem at ALL. grrrr. so frustrating. They bled the system, though and everything shifts much more loose and smooth. I haven't had the problem again, though I only tried it a couple of times today, but I FELT a difference in how the shifting moved.
So now I am hoping that this is fine. I mentioned the linkage coupler and he said it looked fine, but seemed to not really understand when I was saying people had fixed that problem by putting clamps on that spot. (I still haven't seen a photo of that to fully grasp what it looks like).
Soooooo, I got my stuff bled for free, which rules. I hope you all pray to the Swedish gods that Daisy is ok with her shifting for now. She's getting a new bumper and will hopefully last me well until I can put her top down and let the Saab flag fly on many Coney Island trips this summer.....
Thanks all you guys who have been so helpful. My grease monkey guy friends have all been impressed with my new Saab savvy lingo and comprehension. I only wish they could WORK on her and not just be impressed that I know about linkage and gearboxes.
xoxo,
Amelia
