The proper spark plug will allow the engine to reach its full potential - power, fuel economy, etc. The wrong spark plug will reduce power, induce knock, reduce fuel economy.
No spark plug technology is going to improve power and fuel economy over the right plug. No matter what they claim. If they did, don't you think the car would come standard with it? What manufacturer would leave fuel economy and power 'on the table?'
Yes, there are some technologies that will allow the plugs to work longer, but Bosch and Champion already use that - platinum.
The right plug is a good brand name plug that meets the specs in the manual, properly gapped.
Remember, Scientific American accepts ads that pay money - they don't do back to back performance testing. If the ad were in the back of a comic book, or People magazine, would you still be interested?
