Inga,
These engine blocks are made from a very high nickel-iron metal so if well cared for the bores don't wear hardly at all, the rings and the pistons do. You may get away with just installing new rings but you (or a machinist) should check bore diameters thoroughly and the piston clearance and the overall condition of the pistons. Cylinder bores wear unevenly so just checking in one place or one plane doesn't tell the whole story and pistons wear in a variety of ways. Although the forged pistons in our C900s are pretty resistant to wear the fit of the rings in their grooves and condition of the skirts should be checked. Then there are the crank and rod bearings to look at. Be sure to check the fit of the wrist pin bushings too. Those need to be a very close fit, about .0002", so if you feel any slop at all they should be replaced and precision honed. Depending on what you find you may need to have the block bored and fit larger pistons.
Since this engine was overheated badly at least once you may find some unusual wear or damage to the bores or piston and ring assemblies or rings that are seized in their grooves. Good luck
