If this was like a crappy domestic car engine nobody would suggest using used pistons. Saab used very high quality parts in these engines and if you can get a set of good clean, hopefully low mileage (that's less than 300K for a Saab 900), pistons for about half the cost of new ones you'll be OK. The main question to ask would be, "What are these pistons doing on the bench? What happened to the engine that they were in"? If the answer is, "It had a bearing problem", then they may be just fine. Like I said, you need to check your bores first. If you have to bore and go oversized you'll have to buy new pistons anyway.
