It's definitely do-able on the passengers side or the drivers side. On pass side, next to the evap housing, under the power steering reservoir, you can get into the car via the rubber grommet. If you pull back the carpet (remove that 3 screw vertical trim piece at the leading edge of the pass door), you can see what I mean up above the metal Bosch LH jetronic fuel ECU/control unit. Note: this isn't really thru the firewall, it's actually thru the inner fenderwell which is prob a better way to go.

On drivers side, there are a few grommets you can use as well but I think they're tougher and if you're going for power / battery / power distribution block, pass side is way cleaner.
