I never thought these "matched pair" belts mattered. All they have to do is make them the same length at the factory, and anyone can do that. If your alternator belts are noticeably under different tensions when tight, there is something wrong. Usually this something is worn out, dry-rotted alternator bushings. Replace these if they're over five years old if you're going to be in the neighborhood. They're so cheap, why not? When they die, the alternator can twist the wrong ways on its pivot and the inner belt will carry most of the tension.
If the bushings are fairly fresh, there's still something wrong. Two months ago, this something turned out to be a loose alternator mounting bracket. Don't overtighten the belts. I have a belt tension gauge and disagree with even the Bentley value. Just get them tight enough to not squeal on cold mornings and hot afternoons. Any tighter than that and you put the aforementioned bushings as well as the bearings in your water pump under undue stress. Water pumps are a little more difficult to change.
