There is a marker I use not far from my house. In my manual cars I'd be lucky to hit 45 mph by the time I'd pass the marker. In all my automatics, I'm hitting 50, maybe 55. But there is a difference in the "feel"...I remember the first time I took my wife in the '87 T w/manual, I hit the gas hard, the turbo spooled up, I looked over at her and her eyes were the size of dinner plates with a smile that went ear to ear. Funniest expression I ever saw...scared to death but smiling. The turbo boost just "feels" different with a manual...it is more of a throw you back in the seat sort of feel. The automatic is more of a sneaky acceleration where you don't get quite the same feeling but (in my experiences with that marker) it does hit it faster. Don't underestimate the turbo lag...while you're shifting and loosing boost, I'm still at red the whole time.
I'd love to go to DC again. Haven't been there since I was a kid back in '69 (RFK's grave was pretty much unmarked yet). Loved the history and loved the sights.
