loud clunk on sharp turns, 88 spg

For about a year now, most often when going in reverse at a sharp angle, and occasionally when going forward at a sharp angle, after about a 1/2 rotation of the wheel, I would get this very loud clunk. Just this week I've noticed when going forward from a stop, in first gear, I get the same clunk, though a little more mild. The control arm bushings "look" fine, but it's hard to know exactly what shape they're in. I have noticed a possible missing bolt to the transmission mount. There is a bracket visible from the passenger side with the hood up, it reads "manual" next to the two higher bolt holes and "automatic" next to the lower two bolt holes. Mine's a manual. One of the "manual" holes is empty and the other has a bolt to the transmission. My question I guess is whether or not there should be a bolt in that second bolt hole. And if a loose transmission mount could create such a racket.
