Hello all...
This is actually a continuation of a thread I began a week ago when considering between an 88 and 85 SPG.
So I went and looked/drove the 85 today. Impressions:
Body is in great shape - small scratches. Only semi major body damage is a small dent where the SPG panel meets the front drivers wheel arch. Panel OK, but doesn't attach as the guiderail it attaches to is bent slightly concave.
Interior - has cracked dash with dash cover. Front seats in pretty poor shape, but have attractive seat covers. Nice Clairon deck w/ original Clarion equalizer. Headliner drooping some, but I've seen much worse.
Driving - Puff of white smoke on start-up. Drove very well - transmission was perfect - no noises /vibration. Boosted into the second-half of the yellow on hard acceleration. Steering tight, though on doing a u-turn there was a whine (bad power steering pump?).
Engine Bay - There was a lot of crud down in the bowelss of the engine (defined as oil and dirt etc.) Hard to say how fresh. Car does not leak oil to the ground, or lose oil, judged by dipstick. There was, however, a slight smoking issue when we had the hood open after my little drive - a drop of oil fell onto the exhaust manifold(?) and smoked (large metal pipe below to the left of head looking at from front) - probably seeped from bolt above?
Otherwise, car has 216K - 2 owners - first was an old lady, who nevertheless loved to drive it (till 180K). Has new CV joints, brakes, calipers. All electrics work fine - including fog lights.
Asking price $2K.
Put down a small deposit to take it to be inspected by local saab mechanic - what should I have them look at specifically? Another guy came out to look at it after me, and if he wants it as-is - he gets it. I wanted the piece-of-mind of a mechanic's opinion.
Other advice?
