Greetings! I learned about Saabnet from a co-worker who also loves her Saab!!!
My '86 900S is experiencing transmission slipping from 1st to 2nd gear. She has 185K+ miles on her, we're the second owners. Any repair work we've had done has been done by a local Saab mechanic (master mechanic in his day, working on the older models). His take is that it isn't likely we'll be able to find a replacement for the transmission, and rebuilding could be a problem because of scarcity of parts (he isn't likely to check out this amazing site, tending toward the "conspiracy" angle of "them" (the government) being able to get into his life through internet usage :o] - bummer, his loss...) At any rate, any and all advice greatly appreciated.
This next question will show my ignorance on the subject, but is it possible/plausible to replace an automatic transmission with a standard? Does it make sense from a financial point of view?
