Look at the window seal at the lower part of the window on the inside of the hatch. If there is water staining there, that could be your culprite. That's where my leak was on my '92. Dirt and debris accumulated in the seal over time and the seal lost it's bond with the glass. I got a tube of Permatex 81730 windshield sealent and that solved my problem. Also, the rear window seal goes on top of the rear spoiler. Sometimes a gap will form at either end of the spoiler where the seal overlaps it that allows water in. You can fill those areas with black silicone. In both cases, the carpet in the cargo area will be wet. If it's not, your leak is somewhere else.
