Townsendimports web site has a discussion of this. And on this site are many reports on doing it, one by yours truly.

My suggestion, visit a DIY carwash and do a pressure washing of as much of the oily crud as you can get rid of in that area before starting.

You need to make a shallower than stock socket for the big bolt - - 27mm on the newest cars (90? up), 30 mm on older, and there's an SAE equivalent for each size. Score socket with a file at the cutting point and cut it with a Sawzall, socket held in a vise.
