he's very knowledgeable on tranny issues. If you can feel this is the shifter though, you just might have chipped a tooth on the diff or the pinio itself. This can happen as a result of pinion bearing wear allowing the pinion to bounce against the crownwheel. That's what happened to mine back in 1995. Inner drivers usually vibrate under acceleration with no symptoms on over-run. It could also be a diff bearing, but they are pretty hefty duty and don't fail often.
When did you last change the tranny oil? First thing to do is drain the oil and look for bits and pieces on the magnetic plug, or in the diff catcher if a later tranny with the filter in the diff cover, (remove).
