AIC failure will result in high or low idle--and should have little or no affect on drivability. AMM failure will normally result in a pretty normal idle, but the car will cough/stumble any time you give it gas. With an AMM failure, the car is still quite drivable, once you get it to speed, but it will respond very poorly to acceleration.
