'86 900s My last clutch was done ~125K in ~1997. Now up to ~230K miles with no Flywheel slippage but gotta redo a leaky clutch slave cyl (last done 3-4years ago & don't recall if it was the cheaper Scantek or Saab part).
So rather than find out I need a clutch disk in another 10K miles or so, I think I should just include the disk plate etc since I'm 80-90% there in terms of the work involved for the clutch slave. I have used a bended 3/16th threaded metal bar as the clutch finger loading tool.
PSo rocessing what I need - and how far to go on parts.
slave cyl (Saab $110)or do I go with cheaper Scantech?
Since I don't notice any slippage on the flywheel- do I need to "polish" it up at a shop?
In addition to the clutch disk does one need to buy a new "pressure plate" or is the pressure plate usually reusable? How do you tell if it's still good?
I'd use new shaft seal and pilot bearing -but what trick's involved to knock out the latter and install the new pilot into the fly wheel?
Then should I consider a new rear main seal? and what's the trick or involved in R&R for that part. Is it a PITA to pull and replace?
I have done this slave cyl replacement before (pulled the radiator for extra room) and am familiar with most of it but not dealing with the pilot and rear main.
I've seen good archive postings on most all of the process - but would appreciate any comments on the parts and the R&R for the rear main and pilot.
Thanks
