Hi, the issue usually boils down to one of four areas, in no particualar order they are 1) a vacuum line is off in a critical portion of boost (bpc, turbo, or just a large leak throwing the works off, the vacuum lines are incorrectly attached ie wrong places), 2) something is telling the system to *not* boost (cruise control switch on the pedals misadjusted or broken, BPC valve no-op, vacuum advance on distributor not working properly), 3) something is not adjusted correctly (base boost, actuator arm length or it's fallen off, plug gap incorrect or incorrect plugs), 4) the car needs a good tune up (plugs, rotor, cap, timing, air cleaner, etc, AND run the good stuff 91 or higher octane if you can get it). Just the difference between a car that is completely properly setup and running with 87 octane and 91 or higher octane is an eye opener.
usually it's an easy find, the occurences of bad AMM, ECU, and the like are much lower than the dumb stuff... "you mean I'm *supposed* to change the air cleaner???"
